It is good to be back at my drawing table after a wonderful trip to Greece. I saw my first European Magpie under the Olive trees in the gardens of the Greek Agora in Athens.

I saw my first magpie in France several years ago and recently my daughter got to appreciate their “magic”, too. All the members of the crow family are so smart and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

I have never seen a magpie but certainly have seen lots of wild turkeys. Most of the flock comes to my backyard daily.

What is your record number of Magpies you have seen at thre same time? I think my record was earlier this year at 16.

Would you be surprised to learn that I have only seen Magpies (2) once in my life? This June, in Greece as I mentioned in my post was my first time! Sadly, we do not have them here in New York. Sixteen Magpies sounds like so much fun! I am always looking for photos of groups of Magpies… Thanks for visiting my blog!

European Magpies are as talkative as ours – maybe more so being from the Old Country… I saw my first in Belgium and then Sweden and was amazed at the chatter…

I grew up with European magpies–they were my grandmother’s enemies in the garden because they kept stealing random things with unparalleled determination. Regardless, it’s impossible to dislike them. A lovely drawing!

beautiful pica pica picture! They are such inquisitive, intelligent and colourful birds – have them in the garden here in the UK. The black of their wings is iridescent in the right light. If you ever get to Spain or Portugal, check out the Azure Winged Magpie that lives there – it’s something else!
